Sophie’s Sunday Thoughts

Sophie’s Sunday Thoughts

For our monthly Sunday thought, I wanted to share a hymn that I delight in, every time Colton plays it on the piano. It is called ‘Lord, Dismiss us with thy Blessing’. For me, the significance of this song is not only connected to the lyrics, but to the sound of the notes being played, that resonate throughout the house. The feeling behind hearing the piano playing through our evenings together. This last week I was sitting in the kitchen, on and off helping Tami cook, and Colton started playing the piano in the other room. I remember thinking how wonderful it is that my husband and sister-wife play

A short intermission…

A short intermission…

We had a wonderful Christmas and we hope that all of you did as well. We’re busy recovering from Christmas and looking forward to the beginning of the new year and the adventures that it will hold for our family. That being the case, this is all the blogging that we’re going to do this week. We’ll be back at it soon, though!

Our Christmas Traditions

As we approach Christmas, we thought we would share some of our Christmas traditions with you, as well as an interesting dynamic we had to go through when we had our first Christmas together. Last year as we were all three coming together for our first Christmas together, we had to decide what to do. We realized that all three of us had different Christmas traditions, and extended families and we can’t all be in three different places at once. Tami & Colton, since being married, would just take turns with their holidays with each family…but now what do we do with 3? Would we only see our extended

More Advent Adventures

More Advent Adventures

This time of year is such a whirlwind of activity, and I have discovered I’m not very good at documenting all the activities, events, and interesting moments. This week has been fun and busy! Sadie is loving putting a new sticker on her tree every day, as well as a fun activity to go with it. Our activity on Friday wasn’t planned, but we ended up needing to move the sheep to another field and that ended up being our family activity. Sadie loved going out with us and it was quite the adventure getting the sheep to leave the field they were in and find the new one

Christmas Advent Adventures 2018

Christmas Advent Adventures 2018

Christmas is always a fun time of year, but having kids for Christmas makes it even better! This year Sadie is really starting to be old enough to start getting into the magical fun of Christmas. I remember growing up and doing things like the 12 days of Christmas for other families in the neighborhood and how fun it was to doorbell ditch goodies to people. So this year I decided to try and do an advent calendar with activities we can do as we countdown to Christmas. It’s a little late getting started but I think I’m starting to get the hang of it now and it will

Far Far Away On Judea’s Plains

Far Far Away On Judea’s Plains

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love the magic that surrounds it, the fun of Santa bringing gifts, presents, Christmas decorations, baking and eating delicious food, and especially the reminder of Jesus Christ’s birth. I’ve always enjoyed the nativity story. One of my family traditions, which is shared by many people, is acting out the nativity. I don’t know where it came from but my mom has a Christmas book full of Christmas stories and one of them is a script for the nativity. There’s a bit of narration, scriptures, and songs. My mom also has a fantastic dress up box and growing up we all loved

Sharing my experiences so far in plural marriage We’ve decided to share our experiences over the past year of living in our plural marriage. I’ve experienced more over the past year and learned more than I can ever hope to share, especially in this short post. I’m writing this post after midnight though and that seems to be a common theme in the life of a man in a plural marriage. It’s hard sometimes to find quiet moments for introspection and reflection. One of my biggest struggles so far has been finding time for myself. I knew that my life would be more busy and I have always been

Thanksgiving Blessings

Thanksgiving Blessings

Thanksgiving is a wonderful opportunity for us every year to count our blessings and reflect on the role that gratitude, selflessness, and love should play in our lives. In honor of this holiday, we’ve decided for our weekly blog post that we, as a family, will share some of the things that we are most grateful for. Colton is thankful for his wives Colton is thankful for his two wives, who are beautiful not only in outward appearance, but also in their characters and the values they have and express. He acknowledges that he is a less than perfect man, but with them standing beside him, it certainly helps

A year in review…

A year in review…

As I look back on everything that has happened over the last year It’s crazy to compare where we were when we started, to where we are now. In doing that comparison, I can see how blessed we are, and how strong we are in choosing to live this way. As well as how far we have come in adapting to this lifestyle, and finding our own groove in it. When we got married, we had no idea what we were doing, or how things should look or be, in a plural situation. I thought that I’d have a better idea, having grown up around plural marriage…but then I

Plural Marriage- My Refiner’s Fire

Plural Marriage- My Refiner’s Fire

When I think back on my first year in a plural marriage there is so much I could talk about- probably way more than anyone is interested in reading in one sitting! It took me a long time to decide on what I thought most people would be interested in reading about. I tried narrowing it down to a few topics, or maybe just a few experiences that provided growth. How do you condense a year’s worth of experiences into a few paragraphs and still have it be interesting to those reading?  So I decided to try and do a little of all of it, realizing that there will
